IELTS and PTE are the two most popular English proficiency tests for studying abroad. Choosing the right one can save you time, money and stress.
Format
IELTS offers paper and computer-based options with a face-to-face speaking test. PTE is fully computer-based and AI-scored, including speaking.
Results
PTE results typically arrive within 48 hours; IELTS computer-delivered results take 3–5 days.
Our recommendation
If you're comfortable with computers and prefer quick results, PTE may suit you. If you prefer speaking to a human examiner, choose IELTS. Take our free diagnostic test to decide.
